RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced Emma Downing as the league runner of the week on Tuesday, following her appearance at the Chile Pepper Festival last Friday.
The senior completed the 5k course in 17:34.0, good for 27th overall and eighth among Division II runners. Downing led a Bison squad that finished 20th overall and eighth amongst Division II teams.
Downing's 17:34.0 mark sets a career-best, surpassing her previous record of 17:34.1, which was set last weekend at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
This is the second time Downing has received runner of the week honors this season, as she was recognized after her first place victory at the OBU Invitational.
Downing and company will enter the postseason in a couple of weeks as they'll prepare for the GAC Championships on Oct. 23, held in Searcy, Ark.
