No. 22 Bison Lock Down UAM

SHAWNEE – It was a complete team effort on Friday night as the 22nd-ranked Oklahoma Baptist Bison swept Arkansas-Monticello 3-0 at Noble Complex in Great American Conference play

Coach Anna Howle sent in a season-high 16 players in the win, which saw OBU improve to 13-3 and 6-2 in the GAC.

Ten different players recorded kills for the Bison led by Malia Leatherland's 14. The outside hitter also notched 11 digs for her fourth double-double. Taryn Weber and Audrey Poupard added six kills each while Kaylee Buell dished out 25 assists.

Defensively, the Bison held UAM to a .007 attack mark and notched 76 digs, the most in a three-set match this year. Diana Carranza led the way in that department with 18 while Buell contributed 13.

The Blossoms were the first to get ahead on Dig Pink weekend, as they attained a 5-1 lead following an OBU error. However, the Bison started getting in rhythm just a little while after. A 4-0 run helped the green and gold get ahead 11-10 after a Weber kill. Another stretch followed, this one a 12-4 run, to put Oklahoma Baptist in front for good. A Poupard and Destiny AbuBakir-Temple block ended that stretch (23-16) and the home squad eventually prevailed 25-19.

The next pair of sets heavily favored the Bison who held the Blossoms to -0.109 and 0.04 attack marks. Early in the second stanza, Taneyah Brown knocked down a kill to make it 10-5. Later, D'Erricka Frierson registered back-to-back points to make the tally 23-13. By the end of the second, OBU won 25-16.

In the third, Poupard helped OBU get off to a solid start as she finished off a Buell pass to make things in favor of the Bison, 8-3. The lead opened up even more, 15-8, after a Monticello error. At that point, Howle was able to bring her bench into the action. Jenna West, Laney Draper, Maci Langford and others came in and helped the home squad prevail 25-18 in the third.

Tomorrow, the Bison will face Southern Arkansas at 1 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
