Track Teams Start Strong at Shocker Invitational

WICHITA, Kan. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's track and field teams returned to action at the Shocker Invitational Friday. The teams combined for one win and 10 top-three finishes on the first day of competition.
 
Freshman Alex Schovanec of the men's team was the big winner of the day, claiming the first event win of his young career in the shot put (14.79 meters), beating Jeff Ast of Wichita State by .42 meters.
 
Nathaniel Worley took second in both the long jump (6.53 meters) and the triple jump (13.78 meters), while Parker Ables (3,000 meters), Zane Nutter (High Jump), and Jacob Power (Weight Throw) all finished second in their respective events.
 
On the women's side, Sarah O'Bryan and Emily Julian finished as the team's top performers. O'Bryan placed second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:13.22, setting new personal best and beating her previous record by 44.13 seconds. Julian finished second in the pole vault with a best of 3.41 meters.
 
The Bison will continue their weekend of action as they take a short ride to Topeka, Kansas, to compete at the Washburn Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 30.
