Track & Field Starts Strong at WSU Indoor

WHICHITA, Kan. – For the first time in 320 long days the Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's track and field teams returned to action, and they didn't miss a beat. The Bison won 11 of 20 events in a head-to-head battle against Wichita State at the Shocker Prelude.

The women claimed six wins on Thursday as Isabella Lotz led the Bison with victories in the 60 meter hurdles (8.98) and the triple jump (11.26m). Imani Jackson (60 meters), Dawnnae Chatman (200 meters), Mary McKey (400 meters), and Emily Julian (pole vault) rounded out the event wins for the Bison.

On the men's side, Mahcoe Smith (60 meters), Matthew Norman (200 meters), Michael Ward (400 meters), Anthony Phillips (pole vault), and Reid Fellers (triple jump) all claimed event victories.

"The WSU meet was very low-key, but most of our athletes committed to compete and made the most of their first competition since last February," said Head Coach Ford Mastin.

"Today was a chance for our freshmen to get experience and show what they can do. McKey and Jackson won events with outstanding winning performances. Ward was impressive in his first win. Several upperclassmen led the way in showing how to prepare and perform. Our leaders are doing their jobs, and the freshmen are giving us a bright future," said Mastin.

The Bison will return to action Friday, Jan. 15 at the Crimson & Gold Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State.
