Bison Men Return Home Against ECU, Hit Road Against SWOSU

SHAWNEE - The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team returns to action on Thursday evening as the Bison welcome in the East Central Tigers before hitting the road on Saturday for a road contest against Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Thursday's game will be on the Bison Sports Network on the OBU YouTube channel featuring Todd Miller on play-by-play and Scott Wanish on color commentary. The game will also be featured on the Bison Radio Network across the state of Oklahoma and iHeartRadio app. On Saturday, the Bison's contest will be on the Bison Radio Network with Miller and Wanish.

The Bison enter Thursday at 1-2 after splitting the past weekend with a loss at No. 3 West Texas A&M before pummeling GAC favorite Southeastern Oklahoma State. OBU then took on rival Southern Nazarene on Monday night on the road and could not overcome a 3-point barrage in a loss.

In a 94-79 loss in Canyon to the third-ranked Buffs, Jaquan Simms finished with 20 points on 7 of 13 shooting while Jarius Hicklen added 15 points in the contest to go with eight boards. The freshman Jordan Thompson was impressive in his debut with 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting and three assists while Harrison Stoddart added 12 points. Brantly Thompson had 10 points while Nigel Wilcox pulled down nine boards.

The Bison opened their home and conference season with an impressive 73-59 win over Southeastern. Stoddart was excellent and led the way with 21 points on 9 of 11 shooting to go with eight rebounds, two blocks, and one steal. Hicklen added 20 points and a pair of steals, while Simms scored 13 points to go with four assists. Thompson scored nine with eight rebounds and four assists while Trey Green added a pair of steals and three assists.

On Monday, OBU allowed 14 3-pointers and turned it over 15 times in a 65-49 loss to the Crimson Storm. Jordan Thompson scored 14 points off the bench, including four 3-pointers, while Green added eight points and a pair of steals. 

Hicklen leads the team in scored with 14.0 points per game and five boards while Stoddart adds 13.3 points per game. Simms adds 13.0 points per game while the freshman Thompson is at 10.3 points per game. Brantly Thompson pours in 7.3 points per game and Wilcox leads the team in rebounds with 7.3 per game and blocks with one per game.

East Central enters the year at 1-2 including one of the most impressive wins of the young season, a win inside the Sawyer Center at SNU. Josh Apple leads the way with 16.0 points per game and eight boards while Jalen Crutchfield pours in 14.3 points per game. Tyler Arnold adds 13.0 points per game and is shooting 52 percent from the field.

Meanwhile, SWOSU has been the surprise early on this season, starting the year 2-0 early on. Tauriawn Knight averages 25.0 points per game while reigning GAC Player of the Week Damion Thornton averaged 21.0 points per game to go with a staggering 14.0 rebounds per game. Chris Braggs, Jr. adds 12.5 points per game while Bralyn James and Jaylan Williams are each at 11.0 points per game.

Tip-off on Thursday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the Noble Complex while tip on Saturday is set to start at 4 p.m.
