Bison Buried by Storm Behind the Arc

BETHANY, Okla. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team could not overcome 14 made 3-pointers by Southern Nazarene, falling to the Crimson Storm inside the Sawyer Center by the score of 65-49 on Monday evening.

The Bison actually out-shot the Storm from the field, going 20 of 48 (42%) while SNU was at 20 of 53 (38%), but the Bison were only 7 of 23 (31%) from deep to the Crimson Storm's 14 of 37 (38%). Turnovers were also the story as OBU gave it away 15 times, leading to 29 SNU points. The Crimson Storm only turned it over eight times.

SNU jumped out to a 6-0 lead before a 3-pointer from Trey Green, a three-point play from Brantly Thompson, and a bucket from Harrison Stoddart made it an 8-8 game.

After a Nigel Wilcox basket made it an 11-10 game in favor of SNU, the Crimson Storm rattled off a 14-2 run thanks to a barrage of 3-pointers to take a 25-12 lead with under seven to play in the half. OBU finally got some offense going in the final minutes as Jarius Hicklen scored seven straight points for OBU to make it a 30-21 game at the break.

The Crimson Storm were relentless in the second half as they ran their lead out to 16 early. OBU had a run in them thanks to four points from Jaquan Simms and 3-pointers from Jordan Thompson and Stoddart to make it a six-point game, but the Bison would never get closer as the Crimson Storm defense and outside shooting pushed the lead out for good en route to the victory.

Jordan Thompson scored 14 points off the bench, including four 3-pointers, while Trey Green added eight points and a pair of steals. Hicklen and Stoddart each had seven points, while Hicklen also added four rebounds.

Manny Dixon had a huge night for SNU with 32 points, including eight 3-pointers and three steals, while Adokiye Iyaye added 14 points and Mo Wilson added eight rebounds, eight assists, and five steals.

OBU will look to rebound at home on Thursday evening as they welcome in East Central for a 7:30 p.m. tip. The game will feature live video and radio via the Bison Sports Network.
