SHAWNEE – Controlling the majority of the match from start to finish, the Oklahoma Baptist women's tennis team defeated Emporia State, 4-3, Thursday afternoon on Bison Hill. With the victory, OBU improved to 5-5 on the season and 4-3 at home.
Doubles was a quick finish as
Kim Moosbacher and
Ethne Dowling got the 6-2 victory over Jessica Purdy and Cyrielle Peyroche at No. 1, followed by
Tahlia Walsh and
Melody Holcomb with the same score over Shannen Meyer and Silvana Caceres at No. 2.
Singles was three up, three down for OBU as Nos. 1, 2, and 4 saw straight set victories. Ninth-ranked
Kim Moosbacher improved to 9-1 as she continues her impressive tear, winning 6-0, 6-2. Freshman
Gabrielly Lamas earned the first singles victory of her OBU career, defeating Caceres 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.
It was a strong all-around performance for the Bison, despite two starters sitting out with injuries.
"Our team has faced adversity, but today they showed up and overcame," said assistant coach
Madeline Schorlemmer. "All the ladies were ready and motivated to play their best. Today was a good win, and we will continue to build upon our matches."
