SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's tennis team picked up where it left off to open up the 2020 season. After winning five of its final seven regular season matches to close out 2019, OBU opens the new year with a 7-0 sweep of Texas A&M-Texarkansas.
After taking the doubles point with 6-0 wins from
Ethne Dowling/
Hanna Zubkova at No. 2 and
Tahlia Walsh/
Gabrielly Lamas at No. 3, OBU needed just three singles victories to clinch the match.
It got that and then some. The Bison gave up one only game out of all six singles matches.
"We are enjoying this win, but not looking too much into it," said Assistant Coach
Madeline Schorlemmer. "Do not expect this level of competition moving forward, Friday and Saturday will be much tougher matches, so we need to practice accordingly this week."
The tougher come in the form of Midwestern St. and Angelo St. Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9, respectively. Both matches will be at hom. OBU will take on Midwestern beginning at 2:30.
