LUBBOCK, Texas - The Oklahoma Baptist softball team closed out the weekend with a split on Saturday afternoon as they used a seven run inning to defeat Chadron State 10-5 before falling to host Lubbock Christian to 10-2 (5).
OBU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second as
Cheyenne Demaree singled through the right side for the early advantage.
McKenna Anderson followed with a two RBI double to right to push the lead out in the early part of the contest.
Chadron State got a run back in the third and two in the fourth to even the game up at three a piece.Â
Katie Long earned the start, going 3.1 IP and striking out six while
Aspen Younce checked in in relief and pitched the next 3.2 innings as she struck out five.
OBU put a crooked number on the board in the bottom of the fourth as they blew the game wide open with seven run fourth.
Jadyn James led the inning off with a single followed by a two-run blast from Demaree to push ahead 5-3.
Makaylah Hunt walked while Anderson picked up her second hit on a single.
Kylie Kawamura singled to drive in a run while
Emily Smith reached on a fielder's choice to push it to 7-3.Â
That set up
Katelyn Marsh with two down and two on as she stepped into the box and blasted the first pitch she saw over the center field wall to push the lead out to 10-3.
Younce closed the game out, earning her third win of the weekend to move to 3-2 on the year despite a pair of Chadron runs in the sixth.
Kawamura finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored while Marsh was 2-for-3 with the homer, three RBI, and two runs scored. Demaree was 2-for-4 with a long bal, three RBI, and two runs while Anderson went 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored. Hunt added a 1-for-1 day with a run scored.
In game two, it was a nightmare first inning as the Chaps put 10 runs on the board and OBU could never quite recover as they fell 10-2 in the contest.
Bayle Short got the start and took the loss for OBU while
Kayleigh Jones saw action in the circle. Long pitched three innings in relief and had three strikeouts.Â
Kawamura was 1-for-3 with a solo shot while Richardson was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Marsh was 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI while James was also 1-for-2.
OBU moves to 3-6 on the year, but come off a much improved 3-1 weekend in Lubbock. They will stay in the area next weekend as they make the short trek to Oklahoma City and Edmond for the OC/UCO Invitational. The Bison will play Friday in Edmond against Colorado State - Pueblo at 12 p.m. at UCO.
