EDMOND, Okla - Katie Long struck out seven batters and the Oklahoma Baptist softball team racked up eight runs on eight hits to earn an 8-0 win in five innings over Colorado State-Pueblo at the OC/UCO Softball Festival on the campus of Central Oklahoma.
The Bison wasted no time to get going as
Shelby Savage earned a lead-off walk while
Emily Richardson reached on a hit by pitch. That brought up
Jadyn James who sent a homer over the left field wall for a 3-0 lead.
OBU added more in the second inning as
Kylie Kawamura drove two home on a two RBI single while James drove in her fourth run of the game on a RBI single. Richardson later scored on a wild pitch to push the game to 7-0.
Ih the meantime, Long continued to mow down the Thunderwolves as she would earn her first win and first shutout of the 2020 season, moving to 1-2. Long walked no batters and only had another runner reach on an error.
Kawamura ended the game in the fifth inning with a RBI single to give the Bison their fourth win in their last five games.
James was 3-for-3 with four RBI while Kawamura was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Savage added a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored Marsh added a hit and
Tiffany Williams scored a run.
OBU moves to 4-6 on the season and will look to build off their momentum the rest of the weekend at the festival against Fort Hays State and Rogers State.
