SHAWNEE - The Oklahoma Baptist softball team scored seven runs in the seventh inning of the first game on Saturday afternoon's doubleheader at Bison Park to clinch their second straight Great American Conference series. The Bison won the thrilling first game 11-10 before dropping the second game 12-6.
It was unkind to be a pitcher in Shawnee on this day as wind gusts helped the ball travel all day long.
Despite a two RBI double in the fourth by
McKenna Anderson and a solo shot from
Kylie Kawamura, the Bison found themselves trailing 10-4 going into the final inning of play.
Jadyn James led the inning off with a single and
Kaytlyn Marsh followed with a single of her own.
Sheyanne Sandoval followed with a RBI single while
Cheyenne Demaree singled.
Emily Smith followed with a RBI single and suddenly it was a 10-6 game with the bases loaded. Anderson came to the plate and cleared the bases, finding herself on third with nobody out.
Shelby Savage followed with a triple to right to tie the game at 10.
After a walk and back-to-back outs, Marsh came to the plate and singled through the right side, scoring the game winner and give the Bison the amazing 11-10 win and the series.
Katie Long got the start and was relieved by
Kayleigh Jones.
Tiffany Williams (1-0) picked up the win after pitching 4.0 innings in relief to go with two strikeouts.
Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double and five RBI while Marsh was 4-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored. Sandoval finished 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored while Savage was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Demaree and Smith each had two hits while Smith scored three times with a double.Â
A James RBI single in the first gave OBU the lead early in the final contest, but Henderson State scored nine in the next three innings to take control. Marsh and Richardson drove home runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, and Demaree homered in the seventh, but it was not enough as the Reddie offense was too strong, taking a 12-6 win.
Aspen Younce (6-5) took the loss for OBU while Long saw relief work. Marsh capped an incredible day with a 4-for-4 outing with a double and a RBI. Anderson was 2-for-4 with a run scored while Richardson was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Demaree drove in two on her long ball while James was 1-for-4 with a RBI.
The Bison move to 11-9 overall nad 7-1 in the GAC standings. The Bison will now hit the road to Arkadelphia for a four game conference series against Ouachita. First pitch of a doubleheader is Friday at 3 p.m.
