SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's basketball team fell to Harding 83-58 in its first home contest of 2020 Thursday night. OBU started the game strong, taking a six-point lead into the second quarter. Unfortunately for the Bison, Harding was able to get its offense going and never looked back.
McKenzie Cooper and
Ugochinyere Nwarie both finished the night with 14 points apiece to lead the Bison. Cooper also tied
Briana Marshall for second on the night with five rebounds each, and Nwarie went 2-3 from behind the arc.
Andreja Peciuraite also capped off the night in double digits, putting up a season-high of 10 points.
Charissa Price was the leading rebounder with 10. Price, Marshall,
Jaylin Stapleton, and
Mikayla Shulanberger all chalked up a steal for the Bison.
In the first half OBU came out firing, holding a lead for just over eight of the first 10 minutes of the game. Harding got rolling in the beginning of the second quarter, going on a 9-3 run to tie the game up at 20. The Bisons then proceeded to put up 18 more before entering the break. OBU was able rally back after getting 10 points down make it a six-point halftime deficit.
In the second half Harding came out strong, pulling ahead by 11. The Bison were able to bring it back within 10, but the visiting Bisons did not flinch as their offense continued push and never looked back. OBU was never able to get the score back into a single-digit deficit and ultimately fell by a final count of 83-58.
The Bison will look to refocus as they welcome in Arkansas Tech this Saturday, with tipoff coming at 1 p.m. inside the Noble Complex.
