Bison Drop Pair in the Desert

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Oklahoma Baptist softball team opened their 2020 season in Las Vegas, Nevada. The team is participating in the Vegas Desert Stinger Tournament. The Bison fell to Regis 4-3 and then to Texas-Tyler 8-1.

Regis was the first culprit to down the Bison as they snuck away with a 4-3 victory despite OBU besting the Rangers with six hits to five. Jadyn James brought scored two of the Bison's three runs. Shelby Savage, Emily Smith and Tyra Garcia each logged one run.

Smith kept along her scoring pattern, bringing in the lone run for OBU against Texas-Tyler as they fell 8-1. Katelyn Marsh had the hot bat for the Bison as she had two hits on her three at-bats for the game.

"The first game was very competitive," commented Coach Maples after her team's first day of tournament play. "The second game, though we lost 8-1, we had a lot of defensive errors. Pitchers were the highlight of the day."

Oklahoma Baptist has three games remaining in the tournament. Minot State and UC-San Diego await OBU tomorrow, with a one-off game on Sunday against the University of Mary Marauders.
