SHAWNEE - The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team had a rare tough shooting night in their home gym while Ouachita was 50 percent from the field as the Bison dropped a narrow 64-62 contest to the Tigers at the Noble Complex.
For OBU, it was their first loss inside their home gym as they were only 19 of 53 (36%) from the field despite only seven turnovers. .
Ouachita got off to a red hot start while OBU came out very slow as they only scored six points in the first 11 minutes to fall behind 20-6. From there, OBU outscored the Tigers 24-12 in the final nine minutes to only trail 32-30 at the break thanks to nine points from
Rashad Lewis and seven points from
Harrison Stoddart.
Stoddart began to heat up in the second half, but Ouachita continued to hit shots and make plays to maintain their lead. OBU got within two numerous times, but never could get over the hill and take the lead to ignite the crowd.
After a pair of
Brantly Thompson free throws made it a two point game with 22 seconds to play,
Jarius Hicklen stole the inbounds pass and gave the Bison a chance for the tie or the win. Lewis fired a 3-pointer that was just off the mark and Ouachita rebounded as the buzzer expired for the win.
Stoddart finished with 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting and two 3-pointers while Hicklen scored 13 points off the bench.
Dishon Lowery scored 10 points to go with eight rebounds while Lewis had nine points and four assists.
Allie Freeman and Raymond Harris each scored 15 points to lead Ouachita on the night.
The Bison move to 12-7 overall and 7-6 in the GAC. OBU will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon as they welcome in Henderson State for a 3 p.m. tip off inside Noble.
