OBU Falls Late at Northwestern

ALVA, Okla. – The Oklahoma Baptist women's basketball team fell to Northwestern Oklahoma State, 75-59, Saturday night. The Bison kept the game close through the first three quarters, never allowing NWOSU to gain a double-digit advantage. In the fourth, however, NWOSU was able to pull away and seal the win.

OBU finished the afternoon going 18-44 (40.9%) from the field. Jaylin Stapleton led the way for the Bison putting up a season-high 20 points. She also tied Mikayla Shulanberger with two steals on the afternoon. Briana Marshall added 17 points for the Bison, and led the team with four three-pointers. McKenzie Cooper rounded out the top three scorers with 11 points.

In the first half the Bison came out firing, as Marshall opened up the game with a back-to-back three-pointers to take an early four-point lead. The Rangers traded points with the Bison throughout the first half and were able take an eight-point lead into halftime.

In the third quarter the Bison and Rangers continued to trade baskets. Unfortunately for OBU, NWOSU was able to put together a few five-point runs and the Bison were never able to completely make up the difference. In the fourth, the Rangers were able to outscore the Bison by 10 and took the 16-point victory.

The Bison continue their four-game road trip with stops in Magnolia and Monticello next week. OBU will take on Southern Arkansas on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m., and Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
