BETHANY, Okla. – Cheyenne Demaree helped Oklahoma Baptist gain a split with rival Southern Nazarene with a final inning grand slam that lifted the Lady Bison to a 10-5 softball victory Tuesday in Bethany. SNU won the opener, 4-2.
OBU is now 12-22 overall and 6-16 in Great American Conference play. The Lady Bison return home for their next series and will host defending league champion Southern Arkansas in a four-game series beginning Friday.
Demaree's homer, her fifth of the season, came in the most critical of times. OBU appeared on its way for an easy game two win before SNU scored twice in the sixth inning to tie the game at 5-5. Demaree drove in
Franki Hull,
Bry Flanagan and
Kristen Grabin with her homer.
Katie Long picked up the win in relief of
Haylee Hall. Long pitched five innings, over two different turns, and improved her record to 8-11.
In the opener, Long carried a no hitter into the fifth and a shutout into the sixth before SNU scored four runs thanks to back-to-back fielding errors.
Demaree was offensive star in game one as well. Her two-run homer scored Hull and kept the Lady Bison in front until the bottom of the sixth.
