Softball Team Drops Pair to Visiting ATU

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist had a number of collective highlights but were unable to string together enough in its softball doubleheader against visiting Arkansas Tech, losing 10-4 and 6-1. The two teams will conclude their four-game series with another twinbill Friday beginning at 12 noon.

OBU opened in impressive order scoring three runs in its first at bat in game one. Cheyenne Demaree sent a double to the outfield wall scoring Bry Flanagan and Kristen Grabin. One batter later Aspen Grimes followed with a double scoring Demaree and building OBU's lead to 3-0.

Katie Long was cruising in the circle holding the visitors scoreless through the four innings. ATU tied it with three runs in the top of the fifth only to see the Bison bounce back. Grimes singled in her second run again scoring Demaree who reached base by a fielder's choice.

OBU's lead was short-lived as ATU solved Long in the sixth inning scoring six times to open a 9-4 lead before adding a final run in the seventh off reliever Chandler Roberts.

Offensively, Grimes and Demi Dobbs each had multi-hit games. The two combined for four of OBU's seven hits.

In game two, Haylee Hall came on in relief of starter Grace Van Horn in the fourth inning after ATU took an early 6-0 lead. Hall pitched well scattering four hits, allowing one run and striking out three batters in four innings.

OBU's only run came in the sixth when Demaree drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Flanagan. The Lady Bison were limited to just three hits, two of which came off the bat of Shelby Savage.
