OBU Hangs on for 14-13 Victory Over SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist emerged victorious holding fast to a 14-13 baseball victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday in Weatherford. The game between the two instate rivals is the first of five scheduled meetings between the squads. The game did not count in the Great American Conference standings.

OBU, now 16-10 overall, will next play league-leader Arkansas Tech in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader Friday in Russellville, Ark.

Against SWOSU, OBU peppered eight different Bulldog hurlers with 16 hits including three home runs. Kaimana Bartolome, Jake Gozzo and P.J. Harris all went deep as the Bison built a 10-3 lead after two and one-half innings.

OBU added its only other runs in the fifth by plating four. Eric Carlson's double down the line scored Ramon Enriquez and Gozzo to build the lead to 14-8.

SWOSU made the Bison work in the ninth scoring twice to close the advantage to a single run. Normal starter A.J. Merkel was brought in relief with the bases loaded and two outs. He got the final SWOSU batter to fly out to centerfield to end the game.

Andrew Eppenbach picked up the win in relief as he pitched four innings and improved to 2-0.
