Men Return Home for Matchup Against SWOSU

SHAWNEE - The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team will look to remain unbeaten at the Noble Complex as they return home on Saturday afternoon to take on the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs.

Tip-off is slated for 3:00 p.m. between the Bison and the Bulldogs following the women's contest. The game will be on KGFF in Shawnee with Todd Miller and Scott Wanish with live video available on obubison.com.

In their last contest, a slow start out of the gate proved to be the difference as the Bison dropped a road contest to East Central in Ada to fall to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the GAC. It was a nightmare start for Oklahoma Baptist that they were not able to recover from as they fell into a 14-0 hole in the first five minutes of the game and though they fought valiantly, getting the score down to a three point game in the second half, the Bison could never recover, falling 97-85.

Kurt Hall scored 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting off the bench while Harrison Stoddart added 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting. Rashad Lewis scored 13 points, Jarius Hicklen added 12 points, and Jaquan Simms pitched in 11 points. Dishon Lowery had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Lewis continues to lead the team in scoring this season with 12.4 points per game to go with 22 assists and seven steals. Lewis is shooting 46 percent from the field and an impressive 45 percent from behind the arc. Simms adds 11.1 points per game to go with 18 assists as he is shooting 44 percent from deep as well as a team leading nine steals.

Stoddart had 9.1 points per game this season to go with 4.1 rebounds per game and is at a clip of 44% from behind the arc. Dishon Lowery pitched in 8.7 points per game to go with 7.4 rebounds per game to lead the team. Jacque Brown leads the team in assists with 28 to go with 8.6 points per game.

Southwestern Oklahoma State comes in with a 5-4 record and a 1-2 mark in GAC play including a win over East Central earlier this year. They are practically a new team under head coach Terry Evans with 13 new player taking the floor fo the Bulldogs as they have seen massive improvements in 2019-20.

They are led by Damion Thornton who averaged 19.0 points per game to go with 5.9 rebounds per game, 16 assists, and 19 steals on the year. Thornton shoots 55 percent from the field and has gotten to the free throw line 67 times already in only nine contests.

Jaylan Williams checks in with 9.3 points per game while Marquis Johnson adds 8.7 points per game. Bralyn James and Kamden Gipson each had 8.2 and 8.1 points per game, respectively.

OBU had an advantage in shooting as a team at 46 percent from the field and 38 percent from deep to SWOSU's 42 percent from the field and 32 percent from deep. The Bison also have slight advantages in rebounds and assists as a team. Both teams average around 13 turnovers a game, but the Bulldog defense has forced opponents into nearly 20 turnovers per game while the Bison defense has only forced around 12.

Reserved and general admission tickets are available at the Noble Complex box office, or online at OBUBison.com/Tickets. Tickets will be valid for entry to both games each evening. OBU students and faculty/staff receive free admission with their OBU ID.
