Bison Prepare for First Road Test

SHAWNEE - The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team prepare for their first road test this week with a pair of matchups beginning with a Thursday night tilt with No. 24 Tarleton State followed by a Saturday afternoon game against Rogers State.

OBU is fresh off a pair of wins to open the season, defeating Nebraska-Kearney 72-57 followed by a win over Wayne State 83-58 at the Noble Complex. 

Four different players were in double figures in the win over the Lopers as all scored 12 points beginning with Jacque Brown, who added four assists and two steals while Rashad Lewis had 12 points and a pair of 3-pointers. Harrison Stoddart had 12, five boards, and three blocks while Mohammed Abubakar scored 12 off the bench on 6 of 6 shooting. Dishon Lowery added nine points and five boards to go with a block and two steals while Simms and Hall each scored six.

In the win over the Wildcats, Jaquan Simms finished with 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting including five 3-pointers while Lewis had 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting with five assists and three steals. Brown had 10 points to go with eight assists while Dishon Lowery had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Harrison Stoddart had eight points and 11 rebounds while Kurt Hall and Thompson each poured in eight points.

OBU shots over 50% from the field in both contests including 13 3-pointers in the win over Wayne State. OBU brought a balanced attack throughout the weekend with stifling defense. The Bison also dominated the boards in both contests with a +13 margin in rebounding.

Lewis leads all scorers with 12.5 points per game while Simms averages 11.5, Brown averages 11.0, and Stoddart adds 10.0. Lewis is shooting a red hot 64% from the field while Simms comes in at a 53% clip. 

Tarleton comes in at 1-1 on teh season with a win over Metro State before falling to Black Hills State last weekend. The Texans are led by Josh Hawley with 20.5 pts/gm while Randall Broddie adds 11.5 pts/gm and Devin Bethely chips in 11.0 pts/gm.

Rogers comes in at 2-0 win a pair of wins over GAC opponents as they defeated Southern Arkansas and Henderson State last weekend. Marques Sumner leads the way with 24.0 pts/gm while Brewster Peacock adds 14.5 pts/gm and Jett Sternberger has 13.0 pts/gm.

The OBU/Tarleton game will be on KGFF in Shawnee with Todd Miller and James Hill while the Rogers State contest will only offer live video via the home team.
