Men Visit Harding, Look to Remain in First

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team plays the first of two consecutive road games travelling to Harding University Thursday, Jan. 10 in Searcy, Ark. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Rhodes Fieldhouse. OBU is 1-1 this year in true road games, losing at Southwestern Oklahoma and winning at Northwestern Oklahoma.
 
 Last Time Out
  • OBU strengthened its position in the Great American Conference men's basketball race with a 79-61 victory over visiting Ouachita Baptist. The win improved the Bison to 6-6 overall and 5-1 in league play where they remain tied with Southern Nazarene, Arkansas Monticello and Southern Arkansas for the top spot.
  • Harrison Stoddart and Tyler Lester each scored 16 points to lead the Bison. They were joined in double figures by teammate Antonio Wade who added 14.
  • The Bison finished the game making 24-of-51 shots for 47 percent, including 10 three pointers. OBU outrebounded the visitors by a 42-28 margin, a plus 14 advantage.

 OBU BY THE NUMBERS
  • Oklahoma Baptist is the top scoring team in the GAC, averaging nearly 84 points per game.
    The Bison are 5-1 in games in which they score over 80 points.
  • Antonio Wade leads OBU in five different categories including points (16.5 ppg.), steals (15) assists (65) three-point percentage (50.0) and three pointers made (22).
  • Harrison Stoddart upped his scoring average into double figures (10.1) after averaging 14.5. points in the last two games.
  • Tyler Lester has made two or more three pointers in each of the last four games. He has connected on 66.7 percent on 10-of-15 shooting from long distance.
  • Oklahoma Baptist ranks second in the league in both field goal accuracy and three-point accuracy. The Bison are 48.6 from the field and are 38.3 percent from long distance.
  • The Bison have made 10-or-more three-pointers in six games, including the last three. OBU has made 115 three-pointers this year, third most in the GAC behind only Arkansas Tech (151) and Southeastern Oklahoma (121) have made more.
 
HARDING BY THE NUMBERS
  • Harding enters at 5-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play where they are alone in seventh place.
  • Harding has lost three consecutive games falling to Christian Brothers (69-57), East Central (82-74) and Southeastern Oklahoma (76-55)
  • Harding won its first four home games before losing to Christian Brothers in their last game at Rhodes Fieldhouse.
  • J.V. Long leads the Bison in scoring averaging 13.2 points per game. He has topped HU in scoring five times this year, including the last three. His 28 points in an earlier game against Christian Brothers is the most scored by a Bison player this year.
