Women Fall at Ouachita, 70-59

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist let a double-digit lead shrink over the final three quarters and lost 70-59 to Ouachita Baptist in a women's basketball game Thursday in Arkadelphia.

OBU, now 9-10 overall and 5-8 in Great American Conference play, concludes its two-game Arkansas trip Saturday at Henderson State. The Lady Bison will next be at home Saturday, Feb. 9 against Southwestern Oklahoma.

Victoria Blankenship and Katy Custer carried OBU to an early 10-point lead late in the first. Quarter. Custer hit three three-pointers and Blankenship muscled inside for a number of baskets to put the Lady Bison in control.

Custer, who finished with 12 points, became the 29th OBU player to reach 1,000 points in her career. She now has 1,011 and has tied Rachel Stark for 27th on the list.

Blankenship, who is the current GAC Player-of-the-Week after scoring 36 points in her last outing, again had big numbers. She finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.

Blankenship's teammate, Autumn Avina, also finished with a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. It was Avina's fifth double-double of the year.

OBU's first-quarter lead was trimmed to four points at half. Ouachita took over outscoring the Lady Bison 26-13 in the third quarter building the margin to 13 points midway through the fourth.

Madison Brittain had 16 points to lead Ouachita who improved to 8-9 overall and 5-8 in league play.
