Bison Run Wild in 99-63 Romp over ATU

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist revved up its offensive engine and easily raced past Arkansas Tech with a 99-63 men's basketball victory Saturday in Russellville, Ark.

The win was OBU's fourth straight and improved its overall record at 8-6 overall and kept the Bison in the lead in the Great American Conference standings at 7-1. They are tied with Southern Arkansas atop the league race.

The Bison will next play Thursday, Jan. 17 at home against longtime rival Southern Nazarene. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Shawnee.

Brantly Thompson scored 19 points and led four other Bison players in double figures. Thompson made seven-of-nine from the floor, including nailing five-of-six from three-point distance.

The 99 points was the most scored by the Bison against any NCAA Division II opponent, topping the 96 points scored against Washburn in the season opener.

OBU grew an early lead to twin figures when Antonio Wade scored on a fast break to put the Bison in front 28-17 with 9:23 to play in the first half. Wade, who finished with 16 points, scored with five seconds before half to give the Bison a 51-35 cushion.

The Bison strung together 15 consecutive points to put the game out of reach. Thompson hit consecutive three pointers and scored again on a fast break layup to give OBU a 70-45 lead with 14 minutes to play.

OBU continued to build its margin growing it to as many as 37 points. The biggest play during the stretch was a rim-rattling, slam-dunk that Davion Turner threw down after soaring over a Tech defender. Turner finished with 16 points.

OBU finished the game making 38-of-72 shots for 52.6 percent. The Bison were 14-of-29 from three-point distance for 48.2 percent. The 14 triples were the second most by OBU this year, trailing the 15 made in the opener against Washburn.
