Lady Bison Tame Tiger Threat

Box Score (xml)

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma – Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer went perfect on the opening weekend of Great American Conference play after dropping Ouachita Baptist, 2-1, at Jim Darnell Stadium in Midwest City, Oklahoma.

With the win, OBU pushed their GAC unbeaten regular season run to 14 matches. Oklahoma Baptist hasn't lost a regular season conference matchup since Oct. 27, 2016.

The match was moved to Midwest City as a result of heavy rains in the area Friday that left the OBU Soccer Complex unplayable.

Despite peppering the Ouachita goal with four shots on frame, the Lady Bison were unfortunate to find themselves on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline heading into the interval after a well-executed counter by the Tigers exploited Oklahoma Baptist's advanced position. The shot just narrowly evaded the outstretched fingertips of Emily Griffith to give Ouachita the lead in the 45th minute.

The advantage was quickly erased after the start of the second half as Emmily Infante scored off a looping, long-range effort in the 52nd minute. The senior midfielder picked up a ball from Ruth King and fired a speculative shot from 25 yards out that fit perfectly in the upper 90.

Oklahoma Baptist then grabbed the lead in the 60th minute off another combination of Infante and King. This time, Infante's low effort from 20 yards out was redirected by King in the six-yard box on a simple tap-in to give OBU a 2-1 advantage.

The Lady Bison outshot Ouachita 22-11, led by five shots by Ruth King and four each from Hannah White and Tori Kitchel. Griffith picked up five saves while going the full 90 minutes in goal.

Oklahoma Baptist (4-4, 2-0 GAC) gets set for rivalry action on Tuesday, Sept. 25 as they welcome Southern Nazarene to the OBU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
