SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist overcame a two-goal deficit to force extra time and defeated Adams State 3-2 in double overtime Thursday in the season opener at the OBU Soccer Complex.
After the Grizzlies (0-1) scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of the match, the Bison (1-0) got on the board in the 35
th minute when a
Martin Romero free kick led to the first goal of the season for
Felipe Robertson. Robertson chipped it over the goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into intermission.
Jesus Andrade scored the equalizer for the Bison in the 51
st minute, taking a feed from
Alejandro Castillo to even the score at 2-2. Both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of regulation and through the first 10-minute overtime period.
In the fourth minute of the second overtime, Italo Vichiatto netted the game-winner off a header from
Jonathan Martinez following a corner kick.
OBU attempted 28 shots while limiting the Grizzlies to 10 shots for the match. The Bison tested the ASU keeper nine times, paced by two shots on goal from freshman Bruno Feirrerra.
Parker Lawter picked up the win in goal, making two saves while playing the entire match between the sticks.
OBU hits the road to face Eastern New Mexico in Portales, New Mexico, on Saturday at 2 p.m. Central.
