SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's lacrosse team, along with three individual Lady Bison, were announced as academic reward recipients by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Monday afternoon.
Â
For the third straight year, the Lady Bison were named an Academic Honor Squad by the IWLCA, in conjunction with Zag Sports. The honor is given to every team that finished the year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Oklahoma Baptist finished the 2017-18 academic year with a team GPA of 3.35, over a tenth of a point higher than the 2016-17 team GPA.
Â
"This is always one of the first goals we put on the board each year," said head coach
Jordan Beech. "I'm very proud of the team for achieving this goal with our best team GPA since I've been here."
Â
It's also the third straight year that OBU has placed at least three Lady Bison on the Academic Honor Roll, with
Emily Bontekoe,
Allison Ingrim and
Savannah Tompkins earning the distinction this year. In order to be named to the Academic Honor Roll, the student-athlete must be at least a junior in standing and maintain a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA.
Â
Ingrim, a finance major from O'Fallon, Missouri, became just the third Lady Bison to be placed on the honor list each year she was eligible. Bontekoe, a Biology major from Hartland, Michigan, and Tompkins, a psychology major from Fruita, Colorado, earned the honor for the first time.
Â
"Three of our four eligible student-athletes took home individual awards this year," Beech said. "That's setting a great example, especially with as young a squad as we had this past season."
