Bison Split at SOSU

SHAWNEE – Jake Gozzo swatted three home runs and Oklahoma Baptist split a pair of 8-7 games at Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday.
 
OBU lost the first game despite rallying from four runs down to tie the game late.
 
The Bison took a 1-0 lead in the second when Gozzo and PJ Harris singled before Matt Poulin produced a sacrifice fly.
 
SOSU scored five unearned runs in the third on two hits and two errors.
 
Gozzo homered to lead off the fourth to narrow the gap to 5-2.
 
Down 6-2, Gozzo added another solo home run in the sixth.
 
Trailing 7-3 in the seventh, Josh Timms ripped a three-run double to make it a 7-6 game and Gozzo singled and Zane Gelphman scored on an error on the play to square the game at 7-7.
 
Southeastern won on a walk-off double with two outs in the ninth.
 
OBU had 11 hits, including four by Gozzo and two each by Brett Berghammer, Timms and Poulin.
 
Andrew Eppenbach took the pitching loss.
 
The Bison trailed 1-0 in the second game before erupting for seven runs in the third. Berghammer had an RBI single and Timms tacked on a two-run double for a 3-1 lead. Juan Gonzalez and Gozzo would add two-run home runs.
 
OBU added a run in the fourth on a second home run of the game by Gonzalez.
 
Zach Fowler (7-3) got the win with Caleb Bly picking up his first save of the season.
 
OBU had 11 hits with each starting position player getting at least one. Gonzalez and Zane Gelphman had two hits each.
 
The teams are scheduled to play a finale Saturday at 1 p.m., but there is a 100 percent chance of rain in the forecast.
