SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist used seven-run innings in both ends of a doubleheader Saturday to sweep both games and the series, 3-0, against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

OBU won the opener 15-8 and the finale 8-5.

The Bison trailed 2-0 in the opener before plating seven runs in the third inning. After a pair of walks,
Garrett McKee got OBU on the scoreboard with an RBI single.
Brett Berghammer tied the game with an RBI fielder's choice.

Zane Gelphman contributed a two-run single for a 4-2 Bison lead and
Josh Timms ripped a three-run home run.
Â
OBU added four in the sixth. Berghammer scored on a wild pitch,
Juan Gonzalez crushed a two-run home run to center field and
Jake Gozzo added an RBI single.
Â
Brett Bloomfield lifted a two-run home run to right in the seventh and Gozzo smashed a two-run shot to left center in the eighth for the final margin.

The Bison had 14 hits, including four by Timms, three by Gozzo and two each by Bloomfield and McKee.

Caleb Bly (4-1) went six innings, striking out nine, to get the win.
Andrew Eppenbach, who stopped a Ranger rally in the sixth, pitched 2.2 scoreless to get a save.

Zach Fowler threw 144 pitches in a complete-game win in the series finale, striking out six.

OBU tied the game in the bottom of the first inning when Berghammer doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Timms.

The Rangers took a 3-1 lead in the second and held it until OBU got its seven-run fifth.

After singles by Berghammer and Bloomfield, Gonzalez had a two-run single to square things at 3-3. Gelphman then launched his 10
th home run of the season – a two-run shot – to give OBU a 5-3 lead.
Matt Poulin and McKee contributed RBI singles and the seventh run scored when Poulin scored from third while McKee got himself into a run-down between first and second.

The Bison had 12 hits in the game, led by Berghammer, Gonzalez, Gozzo and Poulin with two each.

Now 20-12, the Bison head to Southwestern Oklahoma State for a three-game weekend series. The action starts with a 2 p.m. game Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
