Lady Bison Break Multiple Records in Rout

AURORA, Colo. – (HTML Box Score) Oklahoma Baptist set multiple program records Friday in a 25-2 thrashing of Johnson & Wales at Aurora Sports Park.

The Lady Bison (4-6) shattered the record for most points in a single game with 37, passing the previous mark of 27. OBU also set new high water-marks with 12 assists and 22 draw controls. It was the second-most goals scored by a Lady Bison team, one shy of the program record.

Sophomore Lauren McCormack broke the OBU career assist record with her 21st of the season in the first half. She passed Emily Gilbert, who finished with 20 assists playing from 2014 to 2017.

Breanna Wichert, a sophomore midfielder, set the program record for the most points in a game with 12. She scored eight goals and finished with four assists to eclipse the previous record of 10, set by Alexis Martin in 2016 against Midland. Wichert also matched McCormack for the single game assists record.

Senior midfielder Allison Ingrim tied the single game draw control record with 11, matching McCormack's performance against Missouri Baptist this season.

"It was a great team response after a tough game yesterday," said OBU Head Coach Jordan Beech. "Special congrats to Lauren and Breanna who broke a couple records in the process. Now we rest up and turn our focus to a big conference game tomorrow."

Savannah Tompkins opened up the scoring early, finding the back of the net just 44 seconds after the opening whistle. Wichert picked up her fourth assist of the season on the goal. Allison Ingrim scored twice in the next 56 seconds for a 3-0 Lady Bison lead at the 28:20 mark of the first half. Wichert also assisted on Ingrim's second goal.

Wichert added a goal of her own on an assist from Ingrim and then Ingrim scored her third goal of the half less than five minutes into the contest. McCormack assisted on the goal to break the career assists record. Owning a five-goal lead, McCormack scored on Wichert's third assist of the game to make it 6-0, and then Wichert added a goal to extend the OBU lead to seven goals at the 23:22 mark.

Katie Kuehn scored her second goal of the season, Wichert added another goal and Taryn Burks converted a pass from Ingrim for a 10-0 advantage. Senior attack Maysn Ungerer was involved in the next three goals. She scored twice and assisted Tompkins to push the OBU lead to 13-0 with 13:16 remaining in the half. Wichert netted her fourth goal of the half on an assist from Tompkins and Brooke Harden scored her first goal of the season on a Wichert assist to give the Lady Bison a 15-0 halftime lead.

McCormack connected with Wichert 46 seconds into the second half to extend the OBU scoring run to 16 straight goals. The next two goals were scored by McCormack for an 18-0 lead with 23:22 remaining. Her first goal was assisted by Taylor Skomp and the second was a man-down goal. Skomp added her first goal of the game three minutes later before the Wildcats finally got on the board for a 19-1 OBU advantage at the 17:56 mark. Skomp, McCormack and Wichert scored the next three goals, respectively, to push the lead to 22-1.

Following the second goal of the game for Johnson & Wales, OBU responded with back-to-back goals from Wichert. Ingrim assisted on the first of the two scores. Taylor Skomp netted a goal in the last minute for the final margin.

Nine different players scored for OBU and six registered an assist in the win. Tompkins paced the Lady Bison with four caused turnovers and Ingrim finished with a team-high four ground balls.

OBU will wrap up the Spring Break road trip Saturday in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
