SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist opened the North Texas Softball Bash with a win and a loss Friday, knocking off Midwestern State 3-1 and falling, 2-1, to Texas A&M-Commerce.
 
Katie Long (2-1) went the distance to get the win over Midwestern (5-2). Long struck out seven and scattered three hits.
 
The Lady Bison had seven hits, including two by 
Cheyenne Demaree.
 
OBU broke a scoreless tie in the third when 
Katie Reyes singled and eventually scored on a double-steal attempt.
 
The Lady Bison added two more in the fourth when 
Aspen Grimes singled and scored on a double by 
Bry Flanagan, who later scored on a base hit by 
Shelby Savage.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce (7-1) got their only runs off 
Bailee Saye in the fourth inning.
 
The Lady Bison got a run back in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Long.
 
Saye was the tough-luck losing pitcher, holding TAMUC to four hits over six innings. OBU had six hits with 
Dani Manning and 
Kristen Grabin collecting two apiece.
 
Now 2-4, the Lady Bison are scheduled to play Texas-Permian Basin at 11 a.m. and Texas A&M-Kingsville at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting.
