WEATHERFORD – Oklahoma Baptist got 18 points each from
Kadesha Cooper and
McKenzie Cooper and a double-double from
Tasha Edge but lost to No. 10 Southwestern, 100-72, Friday.
Â
Cooper had four three-pointers to lead the Lady Bison while
Tasha Edge had a matching dozen points and dozen rebounds.
Lexi Williams contributed 11 points.
Â
OBU had achieved a 17-17 tie with 1:29 left in the first quarter, but Southwestern finished that period on an 8-3 run and outscored the Lady Bison 25-16 in the second quarter for a 50-36 lead at halftime.
Â
Southwestern led by as many as 21 points in the third quarter. OBU got within 11, but entered the fourth quarter down 74-61.
Â
With the loss, OBU is now tied with Southern Arkansas for the eighth and final spot in the Great American Conference Tournament. The Lady Bison beat Southern Arkansas in both meetings this year, giving OBU the tiebreaker.
Â
An OBU win Saturday would secure a spot, possibly tied for sixth, in the GAC Tournament. The tournament begins Thursday in Bartlesville.
Â
OBU plays at ECU Saturday at 5:30 and can get no less than the No. 8 seed prior to tipoff if Southern Arkansas loses Saturday in its 1 p.m. game at Ouachita Baptist.
