SHAWNEE – The would-be game-winning shot rolled off the left side of the rim as time expired in Oklahoma Baptist's 76-75 loss to Northwestern Thursday in the Noble Complex.
Â
The game was tight the entire night with 22 lead changes and 10 ties.
Â
Chandler Rickey scored inside for a 72-70 lead with 1:56 to play, but Treyvon Anderson answered for NWOSU 21 seconds later and the Rangers took a 74-72 lead with 49 seconds to go.
Â
Vladimir Nemcok drilled a three-pointer with 27 second remaining for a 75-74 OBU lead, but Northwestern went right to the basket for a Brandon Green layup and a 76-75 lead with four seconds left.
Â
Nemcok sprinted the length of the court and let loose a driving layup that teased the Bison faithful before falling outside the cylinder.
Â
Chandler Rickey led OBU with 26 points, followed by Nemcok with 14 and
Brantly Thompson with 11. Nemcok also had 10 assists.
Â
OBU must win at least three of its remaining four games and get help from around the league to qualify for the postseason, falling to 6-12 and two games behind eighth-place Ouachita Baptist, which owns the tiebreaker over the Bison.
Â
The Bison return to action Saturday in a 3 p.m. contest against Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant.
