SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist starts the 2018-19 season playing host to a pair of challengers in the forms of Missouri Southern State and (RV) Emporia State on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10 as part of the GAC/MIAA Crossover.
 
OBU Report

  • OBU was picked finish sixth in the Great American Conference preseason poll after going 13-16 under head coach Casi Bays last year
  • The Lady Bison return four contributors from last year, paced by senior Autumn Avena (9.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.4 apg). She's joined by Charissa Price (3.5 ppg), Sydney Hein (2.6 ppg) and Alexa Richards (2.3 ppg)
  • Bolstering OBU after returning from redshirt years are Katy Custer (14.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg, 2016-17), Kaydee Banks (3.4 ppg, 2016-17), Raley Farquhar (.4 ppg, 2016-17) and Imari Bell
  • The Lady Bison also added six new faces, including Division II transfer Savannah Madrid-Andrews (9.0 ppg, New Mexico Highlands), junior college products Mikayla Shulanberger (Northeastern A&M), Ashtyn Beal (Collin CC) and Victoria Blankenship (San Jacinto-North JC), as well as freshmen Shariah Anderson (Yukon HS) and Mia Cherry (Brock (TX) HS)
  • OBU averaged 78.0 points/game last year, enjoying a plus-2.0 scoring margin, while averaging 36.7 rebounds/game
  • A high-octane team, OBU took 35 percent of their shots from distance last year, connecting on 36.2 percent of their attempts
Scouting the Lions
  • The Lions were picked to finish 10th in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association coaches poll after an 11-17 record last year under Ronnie Ressel
  • Chelsey Henry is MSSU's top returner from last year, averaging 17.5 points/game while shooting 43 percent from the field
  • In exhibition action last week against Wichita State, Henry tallied 13 points, while Destiny Cozart and Jordan Schoenberger each had 10. The Lions would go on to lose 62-49 against the Shockers
  • MSSU returns just four players from last year on 14-woman roster
Scouting the Lady Hornets
  • (RV) Emporia State was tabbed for a top-3 finish in the MIAA preseason coaches poll a year after going 17-11 under Jory Collins. However, the Lady Hornets are under new management with the appointment of Toby Wynn in April
  • A trio of seniors (Addie Lackey, Kyrstie Miller, and Tyra Jones) will lead a talented roster that averaged 73.5 points/game last year
  • The Lady Hornets scored an 89-36 win over Bethel (Kan.) in exhibition action, led by Jones and Miller who combined for 30 points
