Bison Rope Rangers on Homecoming

Box Score (html)

SHAWNEE – An explosive first half proved the difference as Oklahoma Baptist dropped Northwestern Oklahoma State, 38-31, on Homecoming. The win marks two-win improvement for the Bison from last year.

Oklahoma Baptist was rolling in the first half, with Preston Haire connecting with four different receivers on touchdown strikes. OBU struck first when Haire connected with Noah McGraw for a 17-yard score, before answering a Northwestern touchdown with a 2-yard pass to Josh Pettijohn. Haire then connected with Joshua Cornell on a slant for a one-yard touchdown pass on fourth down before finding Jacques Henderson for a 21-yard pass with 4:11 left in the first half. Connor Watts tacked on a 37-yard field goal as the half expired to give OBU a 31-17 lead.

Ruben Thompson, running in place of an injured Tyler Stuever, inched across the goal line on a one-yard run to kick off the scoring in the second half and make it a 38-17 lead. The Rangers scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to make it 38-31, but a crucial fourth-down stop by Lane Martin gave OBU the ball with 1:47 left to ice the game.

Oklahoma Baptist (4-6, 4-6 GAC) stays at home for their final game of the season as they welcome rival Southern Nazarene to Crain Family Stadium at the Hurt Complex next Saturday, Nov. 10. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
