SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist volleyball scored their first 3-0 sweep at home in a month when they dropped Arkansas-Monticello, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-20), in Great American Conference action on Friday night at Mabee Arena at the Noble Complex.
Â
Despite some resistance from UAM in the first set, Oklahoma Baptist was able to keep the Blossoms at arm's length after building an early 6-1 lead punctuated by a
Nicole Fleitman kill off a
Kelsi Chavez feed. Though UAM got within two points near the end,
Brecken Roquemore laid down a kill to shut down the rally, and Fleitman put the finishing touches on the set shortly after.
Â
The Lady Bison then had to fight their way back in the next two sets, trailing by as many as three points in both frames. Both times OBU proved equal to the task at hand, clamping down defensively to hold UAM to just a .044 hitting percentage over the final two sets.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist was led offensively by
Mikayla Watson's match-leading 12 kills, while Blair finished with a match-best 27 assists. Watson completed her double-double with a team-high 13 digs, followed by Chavez with 12.
Olivia Fonville had a match-high five total blocks, including a solo effort.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (12-12, 5-3 GAC) sit alone in fifth place as a result of the win, and will face a short turnaround as they get set to host Southern Arkansas inside Mabee Arena at the Noble Complex tomorrow at 1 p.m. Admission to tomorrow's match is $1.
