SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist faces its toughest test of the Great American Conference Saturday with a trip to Weatherford to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State.
Â
The 11 a.m. match pits the titans of the GAC against one another as both the Lady Bison and Bulldogs enter with perfect 5-0 conference ledgers.
Â
Last year, after a pair of regular season ties, Southwestern edged OBU in the GAC championship game, 3-2, in Shawnee.
Â
OBU, at 7-4 overall, has won five straight matches and ride west with three GAC Players of the Week on the bus.
Â
Ruth King, who had a four-goal match last week, scored three more Thursday in a 4-0 rout at Northwestern Oklahoma State to throw her hat in the Player of the Week mix again. King has a team-leading eight goals and 19 points.
Kerregan Edwards has three goals and three assists.
Â
Two-week reigning Goalkeeper of the Week
Emily Griffith has a 1.30 goals-allowed average and has not allowed more than one goal in the last seven games.
Â
Jennifer Goethe anchors the back line for OBU and has won Defender of the Week the past two weeks.
Â
Southwestern offers a special challenge with Alimata Rabo and Sandra Nabweteme, who together, have 29 goals – more goals than any other team in the conference.
Â
Keeper Steffi Silvera, at 1.19 goals allowed per game, is the only player in the GAC with a better average than Griffith.
Â
While the winner gets a distinct advantage in the standings, the teams meet again on the OBU pitch October 25.
