OBU Wraps Up Play in Bolivar Saturday

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist enters the final day at the Southwest Baptist Tournament Saturday, and will play two matches. The Lady Bison face off with Emporia State at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the day with Adams State at 5 p.m.
 
The Lady Bison opened the tournament with a five-set victory over Fort Lewis College and dropped the second match of the day 0-3 to Drury. Through six matches, Oklahoma Baptist (3-3) has played two three-set matches, two four-set matches, and two five-set matches, earning a 1-1 record in each of the three match lengths.
 
Emporia State (2-3) is averaging 12.2 kills per set with a .205 attack percentage. The Hornets will play one final match Friday night against host school Southwest Baptist. Yuchen Du leads the Hornets with 3.89 kills per set and 13 service aces, hitting at a rate of .376. Emma Dixon paces the team with 5.78 assists per set and Tatum Graves adds 1.11 blocks per set. Allie Maloney leads the defense with 3.44 digs per set.
 
Adams State (2-4) has averaged 12.9 kills per set while allowing the same number to opponents. The Grizzlies hit at a clip of .174, paced by Mallory Grimsrud with a .307 attack percentage and 3.39 kills per set. Grimsrud also leads the team with 1.11 blocks per set. Katelyn Schwartz is fueling the offense at a rate of 9.33 assists per set and Gabrielle Timmen has a 3.78 digs per set average to hold down the back row for the Grizzlies. As of posting time, the ASU still had one remaining match Friday night against Drury after falling to Emporia State 1-3 in their first match Friday.
 
The Lady Bison average 11.8 kills per set hitting at a clip of .183 while holding opponents to a .147 attack percentage. Hayden Blair has four double-doubles to pace the team, including two straight Friday. Blair is averaging 7.25 assists per set and 2.38 digs per set. Redshirt freshman Mikayla Watson leads the team with 2.75 kills per set. In her senior season, Cadyn Laing has been extremely efficient with a .360 attack percentage and 1.12 blocks per set. Sophia Couto leads the Lady Bison with 30 total blocks and averages 1.25 per set. Libero Kelsi Chavez has a 3.74 digs per set average to lead the team and freshman Malia Leatherland has impressed with 2.33 kills and 3.46 digs per set.
 
Saturday will mark the end of the Southwest Baptist Tournament for Oklahoma Baptist, will open up Great American Conference play Sept. 12 on the road in Alva to face Northwestern Oklahoma State.
