SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer is looking to make it two wins in as many matches to start the season when they welcome Central Christian College (Kan.) to the OBU Soccer Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. With a win Tuesday night, the Lady Bison will have won back-to-back matches to open the season the first time in program history.
Oklahoma Baptist (1-0), the only unbeaten Great American Conference school after the opening weekend, has three tied atop the leaderboard for points scored this season after dropping Newman, 2-1, last Thursday to start the 2017 campaign on the front foot. Both
Reagan Mann and
Hannah White have opened their accounts for the year after bagging goals against the Jets, while
Ruth King has tied them on two points after assisting on both scoring efforts.
Emily Griffith was unveiled as OBU's new goalkeeper during the season opener, and she currently has two saves while allowing a solitary goal. The back four of
Lara Haring-Lovett,
Rachel Beiermann,
Jennifer Goethe and
Kelsey Bumgarner held Newman to just nine shots.
Central Christian (1-2) opened up 2017 with 4-2 win over Bethel College before dropping back-to-back matches against Northwest College and Dordt College by a combined score of 10-0. Naime Barba and Rachel Meier have both tallied two goals in the early part of the season, while Meier, Kaitlyn Bevel and Shannon Huesca have each provided one assist. In goal, Goldie Bougher holds a 4.01 goals-against average and .623 save percentage.
The Lady Bison and Tigers have met one other time, with OBU emerging victors, 1-0, over CCC in 2016.
Kerregan Edwards scored the winning goal in that contest after the Lady Bison peppered the CCC goal to the tune of 26 shots.
