Lady Bison Calm Savage Storm

SHAWNEE – (HTML Stats) Oklahoma Baptist opened up the home portion of the season in style, defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-21) in straight sets Tuesday at the Noble Complex.

The Lady Bison (7-7, 2-0 GAC) finished with a season-high .326 attack percentage while holding the Savage Storm (4-9, 0-1 GAC) to minus-.011, the worst percentage by an opponent this season. After committing seven attack errors in the first set OBU was flawless for the final two frames, racking up 26 kills with zero errors and hitting over .441 against the Great American Conference foe.

"We have so many hitters that can score. As long as we can get the ball to the setter, we can really do some great things there," said Head Coach Anna Howle. "[The team] had a blast tonight, and it wasn't just because we won. It's because we played together, and that is the biggest goal for us as a team."

Following a slow start in the first set, the Lady Bison used a 7-1 run to open up a lead they would not relinquish. OBU scored the final seven points of the second set to seal the largest victory of the season, a 15-point thrashing of the Savage Storm. Tied 19-19 in the third set, senior Cadyn Laing closed it out with three kills in the 6-2 run to clinch the match.

Four Lady Bison shared high-kill honors at seven, including Laing, Mikayla Watson, Sophia Couto and Nicole Fleitman. Couto was involved in 10 of the 12 blocks OBU posted, the most in three-set match this year. Libero Suzanny Figueiredo led with 14 digs and Hayden Blair finished with 27 assists.

OBU continues GAC play Thursday, Sept. 21 against rival Southern Nazarene in Bethany.
