SHAWNEE – Looking to continue their best start to a season in program history, Oklahoma Baptist heads south of the Red River to face Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas, on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at Stang Park.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (3-0) preserved their three-match win streak last Saturday evening after
Ruth King scored the match-winner in the 108th minute of a double overtime affair against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma off the cross from
Emmily Infante.
Â
King currently leads the Great American Conference in points (7) off two goals and three assists. Her three assists also rank in the top 10 of all Division II. Two other Lady Bison, Infante and
Reagan Mann, rank in the top three in the conference in points per match at 1.33. As a team, OBU has the GAC's second-best offense with 2.67 goals per match on a GAC-leading 22.0 shots per match.
Â
The Lady Bison are the toast of the GAC, allowing a league-low 1.00 goals against per match through three outings.
Emily Griffith, the reigning two-time GAC Goalkeeper of the Week, currently ranks second in the GAC with a .94 goals-against average. The defense, led by back-to-back GAC Defenders of the Week
Kelsey Bumgarner and
Jennifer Goethe, has allowed just eight shots on goal all season.
Â
Midwestern State (3-1) enters Friday's contest having won their last two matches against Colorado State-Pueblo and Texas A&M-International by combined score of 5-0. Destinee Williamson leads the team with two goals and three assists, while four other Mustangs have tallied scores this season. Courtney Burnette owns a .74 GAA while posting a .885 save percentage on 57 shots faced.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist and Midwestern State have met twice before, most recently in 2010. With a win on Friday night, the Lady Bison will claim their first victory in the series.
