Bison Falter Late in Home Opener

Box Score (html)

SHAWNEE – Two goals for Oklahoma City University in the final nine minutes spoiled Oklahoma Baptist men's soccer home opener on Thursday night at the OBU soccer complex. The loss is the first for the Bison this season.

Thiago Dos Santos had put the Bison up in the 39th minute thanks to a great individual effort. The Brazilian forward dribbled around a defender and blasted a shot just outside the box into the bottom right corner.

Oklahoma Baptist did a nice job of keeping OCU's repeated advances at bay in the second half, with Michael Stewart and David Estrada shutting the door on multiple potential breakaways. Unfortunately, the levy finally broke late in the half and Parker Lawter saw two shots get past him near the match's conclusion.

Lawter had a season-high six saves as he took the first loss of his young career on Bison Hill.

Oklahoma Baptist (1-1-1) goes back on the road to face Southwestern Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m. The match will be played at Putnam North High School in Oklahoma City.
