MASON, Ohio – Oklahoma Baptist scored double-digit runs for the third consecutive game, run-ruling Bluefield 13-1 Friday in the NCCAA World Series.
Joe Moran had five RBI in the game using the long ball and the short game. He gave OBU its first lead with a squeeze bunt and ended the game with a grand slam.
With the pool play win, OBU and Campbellsville have clinched spots in Saturday's semifinals. OBU and Campbellsville play a pool game at 7 p.m., Friday. The winner plays in the 9 a.m. semifinal game with the loser appearing in the noon semi.
Bluefield scored its run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead, but the Bison evened the score in the home half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by
Nick Burnham.
The Bison took the lead for good in the fourth with a squeeze bunt by Moran to plate
Bob English, followed by a two-run home run by
Dustyn Cook.
Burnham added another sacrifice fly in the sixth to give OBU a 5-1 lead.
Josh Timms and
Juan Gonzalez added back-to-back two-run singles to start an eight-run ninth and Moran finished the game with a grand slam for the 13-1 run-rule margin.
The Bison had 10 hits, including two each by
Brett Berghammer, Timms, Gonzalez and Cook.
Zach Fowler (5-1) needed only 75 pitches to complete seven innings while striking out five and allowing just the early run.
Gonzalez cut down two would-be base stealers.
The win puts OBU at 39-15 for the season and raises Coach
Bobby Cox's all-time win total to 1299.
