Bison Crush Alice Lloyd, 19-1

MASON, Ohio – Oklahoma Baptist scored 10 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 19-1 win over Alice Lloyd in their second pool game at the NCCAA World Series Thursday.
 
After a pair of walks to start the game, Zane Gelphman hit the first of his two home runs for a 3-0 lead. Josh Timms singled and scored on a triple by Juan Gonzalez and Heath produced an RBI single for a 5-0 lead.
 
Brett Berghammer added a two-run single and Kevin Olmeda tripled him in for a 9-0 lead. Olmeda scored on a wild pitch for the 10th run of the inning.
 
OBU scored single runs in the next three innings, getting a sacrifice fly by Joseph Moran in the second and RBI singles by Timms and Berghammer in the third and fourth, respectively.
 
Alice Lloyd scored their run in the bottom of the fourth, but OBU answered with two in the fifth. OBU got a solo home run by Gelphman and Austin Whittaker tripled and pinch runner Trevor Tanner scored on an RBI ground out by Landon Harper.
 
Moran added an RBI double and scored on a single by Kyle Abblitt to make it 17-1 and Gelphman walked with the bases loaded to make it 18-1 in the seventh. An RBI single by Timms made it 19-1.
 
OBU accumulated 18 hits in the game, getting three from Timms and two each from Berghammer, Gelphman, Whittaker, Moran and Abblitt.
 
Blake Whitehead went five innings, striking out 10 batters and allowing one run to improve to 6-1 this season.
 
Brad Adams struck out two batters in two spotless innings of relief.
 
The Bison improved to 38-15 on the season, with Coach Bobby Cox picking up his 1298th career victory.
 
OBU finishes pool play action Friday with a 1 p.m. game against Bluefield and a 7 p.m. contest against Campbellsville.
