Lady Bison Headed to NCCAA Finals

TROUTVILLE, Va. – Oklahoma Baptist will play for the NCCAA national championship Thursday afternoon after scoring a 6-2 win over Bluefield Wednesday.

"It's exciting to be in this position, but there will be another team across the field from us with the same goal in mind tomorrow," said Lady Bison Coach Pam Fink. "We can't get caught hoping. We're going to have to earn it."

Oklahoma Baptist's sixth-inning magic was back in play in the second game of pool play from the NCCAA World Series as OBU hit two home runs to take the lead for good.

OBU in the sixth innings of their two games Wednesday went 7-of-12 with three home runs and two doubles.

OBU took a 1-0 lead in the third when Shelby Savage singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Madison Vaughan.

Bluefield scored two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, but Cheyenne Demaree homered just inside the right field line and Jill Shipman followed with an opposite field home run for a 3-2 lead.

OBU added three runs in the top of the seventh. Savage reached on an infield single, stole second and beat a tag at third as Katie Reyes reached on a fielder's choice. Reyes stole second and both runners scored on a base hit by Demaree. Demaree later scored on a base hit by Flanagan.

The Lady Bison had 11 hits in the game, including two each by Savage, Demaree, Flanagan and Shipman.

"It was good to see the bats get going a little more the second game," Fink said. "We answered well at the plate in the late innings.

Bailee Saye went the distance, allowing two unearned runs on six hits while fanning three batters.

"Bailee did a really good job for us in the circle today," Fink said. "She battled through a couple of tough situations."

The Lady Bison play Cedarville Thursday morning in the final pool play game at 11 a.m. (10 a.m., Central) followed by the national championship game approximately 30 minutes after. Bluefield and Judson will play for the right to take on the Lady Bison in the finals.
