Track Qualifies 53 in Kansas

EL DORADO, Kan. – Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's outdoor track and field wrapped up competition at the Butler County Grizzly Invitational Saturday, setting two new NCCAA top times and meeting 53 total national championship qualifying standards.
 
The Lady Bison finished with 28 NCCAA qualifying marks, and the Bison met 25 standards.
 
Three Lady Bison qualified in the 100 meters, paced by McKae Mitchell with a finals time of 11.98, the fastest time in the NCCAA this year. Shariah Anderson (12.23) and Candis Rodgers (12.31) also met the standard.
 
Mitchell won the 200 meters in 24.38, and was one of four athletes to qualify in the event. Kya Barnes (25.19), Rodgers (25.20), and Anderson (25.43) also finished with qualifying times.
 
Barnes took first place in the 400 meters in 58.20 and Breanna Hurlbut was second at 59.71. Abby Mayfield also met the standard in 1:00.36.
 
Destinee Allen was crowned champion in the 800 meters with a qualifying time of 2:17.12. Shimoya Currie (2:23.64) and Sarah Gilstad (2:24.48) also punched their tickets to the NCCAA national championship.
 
Emily Sechrist finished runner-up in the 1500 meters and qualified for nationals in 4:54.65.
 
Leah Molter ran the fastest 100 meter hurdles in the NCCAA this year, winning the event in 13.70. Molter finished second in the 400 hurdles with a qualifying time of 1:04.23.
 
Lacey Herbert qualified in the 100 hurdles at 15.10, and Tia Coleman met the standard in the 400 hurdles with a finish of 1:07.32.
 
There is no qualifying time for relays in the NCCAA, but a team of Anderson, Mitchell, Rodgers, and Molter took third in the 4x100 meter relay in 48.06. The Lady Bison won the 4x400 meter relay in 3:55.26 with Mitchell, Mayfield, Hurlbut, and Barnes.
 
Sydney Long (5–00.50 feet) and Raigan Servati (4–10.50) both qualified in the high jump.
 
Kim Mead finished second in the long jump with a qualifying distance of 17–09 and Long was third at 17–05.50.
 
In the shot put, Brittany Poe (39–00.25) and Mead (38–00.75) met the standard.
 
Jennifer Baker (143–11) and Poe (123–01) each qualified in the discus.
 
Herbert (122–01) and Katrina Horner (121–03) finished second and third, respectively, and qualified in the javelin.
 
For the Bison men, Devontrae Young (10.56), Thiago Dos Santos (10.63), and Jermaine Lewis (11.11) met the standard in the 100 meters.
 
Young (21.38) and Dos Santos (22.11) also qualified in the 200 meters.
 
Matthew Giudice (48.91) and Clayton Honeycutt (50.07) finished in a qualifying time in the 400 meters.
 
Five Bison qualified in the 110 meter hurdles, paced by a fifth place finish from Cayden Spain in 15.23. Christopher Walker (15.42), Andrew Worley (15.63), Dakota Kappelle (15.63), and Hayden Ashley (15.84) also met the standard.
 
Brandon Crowley led the way for three qualifiers in the 400 meter hurdles. Crowley finished in 57.23, followed by Walker at 58.00, and Spain in 58.60.
 
Blaine Whitson took second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a qualifying time of 9:55.03.
 
The Bison team of Dos Santos, Young, Crowley, and Jermaine Lewis took third in the 4x100 meter relay at 43.22. There is no NCCAA standard for relays, but the Bison won the 4x400 meter relay in 3:20.83 with a team of Giudice, Honeycutt, Young, and James.
 
Worley and Ashley both qualified in the high jump with identical finishes at 6–00.
 
Phillip Spess (15–09) won the pole vault, while Ashley (13–07.25) and Worley (13–01.50) also met the standard.
 
Ashley also qualified in the long jump (22–01.50) and the javelin (153–10).
 
Jacob Cochran met the NCCAA qualifying standard in the shot put (46–02.75) and the discus (138–02).
 
The Bison and Lady Bison will compete in three different events next week, including the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13-14 in Azusa, California. On April 14, OBU athletes will travel to Conway, Arkansas, for the University of Central Arkansas Open. Oklahoma Baptist will also appear at the K.T. Woodman Classic on April 14-15 in Wichita, Kansas.
