OBU Clubs Southern Nazarene

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist got a rivalry sweep against Southern Nazarene Tuesday, winning 3-1 and 8-5.

OBU clubbed three home runs in the nightcap.

The Lady Bison scored all three of their runs in the opener in the first inning. Cheyenne Demaree was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Jill Shipman walked with the bases full and Miranda Garza added an RBI single for a 3-0 lead.

Bailee Saye (4-9) allowed one run on eight hits and struck out two to get the complete game win.

OBU was superb defensively behind Saye, including turning a wall ball into the fielder's choice. Shelby Savage played the center field wall perfectly and threw a laser to Jill Shipman covering second to get the runner from first.

OBU had singles in the game from Savage, Katie Reyes, Garza and Sam Barry.

The Lady Bison took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two on an RBI double by Reyes.

OBU took a 3-0 lead in the fourth on solo home runs by Madison Vaughan, her eighth, and Jill Shipman, her second of the season.

Amanda Peterson took a no-hitter into the sixth inning but Southern Nazarene scored five times to take a 5-3 lead in the sixth.

The visitors' dugout dancing was short-lived however, as OBU got all five runs back in the home half of the inning.

Reyes singled and scored on a double by Vaughan. Shipman tied the game with an RBI single. Garza then ripped her second home run of the year – a three-run shot – to boost the Lady Bison to an 8-5 lead.

McKenzie Jones (3-6) retired all five batters she faced in relief to get the win.

OBU collected 10 hits, including three by Shipman and two each by Savage, Reyes and Vaughan.

The Lady Bison return to action this weekend with four games in Durant. OBU plays Southeastern Oklahoma State in doubleheaders at 2 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
