SHAWNEE – Sam Barry ripped a three-run home run and
Amanda Peterson got her first complete game win of the season at OBU finished its series with East Central Friday with a 3-1 win.
ECU won the first two games of the series 3-1 and 12-7 in nine innings.
Peterson scattered eight hits and struck out two to improve to 3-1 on the season. She worked out of bases loaded jams in the first and fifth innings, but to that point had not received any run support.
"Amanda really wanted this game," said OBU Coach
Pam Fink. "She came in after that top of the fifth, slammed her glove down and said 'I will pitch my arm off if we can score some runs.'"
And after singles by
Cheyenne Demaree and
Miranda Garza, Barry delivered her seventh home run of the season over the wall in center field for the 3-0 lead.
ECU pushed a run across on a sacrifice fly in the sixth but again Peterson got out of a bases-loaded jam.
OBU only had four hits in the game with
Bry Flanagan adding a double.
The win came on the heels of a tough extra inning loss. OBU trailed 6-0 before scoring three in the third inning on a two-run single by
Madison Vaughan and an RBI ground out by
Bailee Saye.
Down 7-3, OBU got single runs in the fifth and sixth on an RBI single by Saye and a solo home run – her seventh – by Demaree.
Vaughan hit her seventh home run of the season after a
Katie Reyes double to tie the score in the bottom of the seventh. OBU had the winning run at second, but could not get one more big hit.
ECU scored five times in the top of the ninth to get the win.
The Lady Bison had 13 hits, including four by Reyes, three by Vaughan and two each
Shelby Savage and Saye.
OBU lost the first game 3-1, getting a run in the fourth on an error. OBU was held to three hits – all singles – by Reyes, Flanagan and Garza.
The Lady Bison return to action Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home doubleheader against Southern Nazarene.
