Lady Bison Tame Mountain Lions

SHAWNEE – (HTML Box) Oklahoma Baptist won their second game in a row, defeating Colorado-Colorado Springs 15-10 Saturday at the OBU Lacrosse Complex.

It was a wire-to-wire victory for the Lady Bison, who improved to 4-7 on the season and 2-5 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition.

Hannah Dowell broke a scoreless tie on the first possession for OBU, scoring just 25 seconds into the game. Freshman Breanna Wichert assisted on the made goal. Senior Paige Morrison scored back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 3-0.

"Our seniors really stepped up big for us today. Paige and Hannah did a fantastic job of finding the open look and shooting their shot once they got there," said head coach Jordan Beech.

Following the first Mountain Lion goal of the game, Morrison and Wichert answered with two quick goals. Morrison netted her fourth goal of the game with 20:23 remaining in the first half, pushing the advantage to 6-1 and matching the largest lead of the contest.

Alexis Martin scored an advantage goal later in the first half to give OBU a 7-5 lead at intermission.

Wichert opened up the scoring in the second half with another advantage goal for the Lady Bison, and Lauren McCormack found the back of the net to push the lead back to a four-goal advantage. Morrison scored her fifth goal of the game with 21:45 remaining in the second half for a 10-6 lead.

Dowell scored two straight goals for OBU and Wichert scored for the third time in the game to once again extend the lead to five goals at 13-8. The teams traded goals to end the game, with Dowell and McCormack each scoring once more.

Courtney Barnickle picked up her fourth win of the season in goal, making six saves while playing all 60 minutes between the posts.

Morrison scored five goals, Dowell added four, and Wichert finished with three goals. McCormack, Wichert, and Allison Ingrim each picked up an assist.

McCormack scooped a team-high five ground balls, Katie Kuehn caused four turnovers, and Wichert won six draw controls to lead OBU.

UCCS was held to just 17 shots for the game, while the Lady Bison attempted 29 in the win. OBU also finished with an 18-9 advantage in draw controls.

"The defense did a great job of keeping Colorado Springs out of rhythm and shut down a couple potential runs," said Beech.

OBU closes out the home portion of the schedule on April 15 at 11 a.m., against RMAC-opponent Rockhurst. Senior Day presentations will also take place at the field that Saturday.
