Lady Bison Downed by Hawks on Senior Day

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist fell to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent Rockhurst 19-7 in the home finale Saturday at the OBU Lacrosse Complex.

Paige Morrison scored two goals to lead the Lady Bison on Senior Day. Morrison scored the first goal for OBU on a free position shot with 22:15 remaining in the first half to make the score 2-1. The Hawks (8-7, 4-3 RMAC) answered with a 5-0 run.

Breanna Wichert scored later in the half, and Alexis Martin scored twice in the final minute before intermission to cut the deficit to 10-4 at halftime. Lauren McCormack found Martin for the first goal with 52 seconds remaining, and Allison Ingrim set up Martin with 25 seconds left for the final score of the first period.

The Lady Bison attempted just three shots in the second half, scoring on all three opportunities. Savannah Tompkins scored her fifth goal of the year, and seniors Hannah Dowell and Morrison both scored on free position shots for the final OBU goals. As a team, the Lady Bison finished 3-of-4 on free position opportunities.

Jamie Jefferson and Tompkins each had four ground balls, McCormack won six draw controls, and three players caused four turnovers each.

Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Barnickle made seven saves in 39 minutes. Caity Cullison finished the game in goal, making three saves.

Prior to the game, eight seniors were honored in a special ceremony to recognize their contributions to the program. Morrison, Jefferson, Suzie Wisham, Dowell, Emily Gilbert, Cullison, Morgan Urick, and Sarah Anderson were each honored before their final games on Bison Hill.

"They work very hard and they've done that day in and day out for four years. They came to campus and there wasn't really even that much of a team, so we are what they've made it," said OBU Coach Jordan Beech of the seniors.

"We let it go today and that was unfortunate, but they've made strides every single year. It may not show in the record, but this is a very hard-working group of girls."

OBU, now 4-8 and 2-6 in RMAC play, will close out their season with a road trip to face McKendree on April 20, with the finale on April 22 at Lindenwood.
