Freshman Walk-Offs Fuel Lady Bison Sweep

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist, using a pair of freshman walk-offs, swept Arkansas Tech Saturday, 2-1 and 7-6, the former coming in 10 innings.

Morgan Hughes and Cheyenne Demaree were the walk-off heroes for the team and classmate Shelby Savage added a key outfield assist.

"I'm really proud of our team," said Lady Bison Coach Pam Fink. "We really needed a day like today. And how about those freshmen!"

Bailee Saye (2-5) went the full 10 innings for the Lady Bison, allowing one unearned run and striking out six while scattering four hits.

Arkansas Tech took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning, but OBU evened the score when Kursten Bergene scored on an error.

In the top of the 10th, freshman centerfielder Savage gunned down Ashley Landry at the plate, attempting to score from second on a two-out single.

In the bottom of the 10th, with two out and runners at first and second, Hughes singled to center and Savage scored ahead of the throw for the game-winner.

The Lady Bison had seven hits in the game, including two each by Hughes and Madison Vaughan and a double by Miranda Garza.

The second game was a see-saw battle with OBU taking the first lead, 2-0, in the second with an RBI single by Garza and an RBI triple by Hughes.

The Golden Suns took a 3-2 lead in the third, but OBU added two in the home half on an error and a wild pitch.

Arkansas Tech tied the game in the sixth, but the Lady Bison scored twice in the bottom of that inning on an RBI single by Garza and an RBI double by Katie Reyes.

The Golden Suns again tied the score in the top of the seventh.

Demaree launched her second home run of the season over the center field wall to lead off the bottom of the seventh for the game-winner.

Amanda Peterson picked up the win in relief.

OBU had seven hits in the game, led by Garza with two.

The Lady Bison return to action Tuesday with a 4 p.m. home doubleheader against Rogers State.
